Sara Van Buskirk is a songwriter and musician whose sound resonates with raw emotion and vivid storytelling. Hailing from Houston, Texas, SVB has carved out a unique space in the music industry with their poignant lyrics, haunting melodies, and a voice that effortlessly conveys the depths of human experience. Sara’s journey into music began at a young age, influenced by the rich musical traditions of Blues, Gospel, and Roots. Her sound is deeply informed by all music, from Joplin to Chopin. Sara grew up listening to greats such as Nina Simone, Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris, Janis Joplin, and Linda Ronstadt. Over the years, she has honed her craft, developing a sound that is both timeless and distinctly her own. Whether performing with the full SVB band or in collaboration with other musicians, Sara’s performances are intimate and powerful, leaving audiences spellbound.

With a growing catalog of releases, Sara has gained recognition for her ability to create music that is both deeply personal and deeply relatable. In 2010 they self-released “The Place Where You Are” available on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon. The single “Can We Be Friends?” released mid the world-wide pandemic of 2020. December of 2023 SVB joined The Tennessee Freedom Singers (Allison Russell, Brittany Howard, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires, Katie Pruitt, Brittney Spencer, Emmylou Harris, Mary Gauthier, Ruby Amanfu, Lucie Silvas, Molly Tuttle, Mickey Guyton to name a few) to record and release “Tennessee Rise” at Nashville’s Sound Emporium - a song in support of the Gloria Johnson Campaign culminating in a live performance in April of 2024 at Nashville’s City Winery. 

2024 has proven a busy year for SVB beginning with collaboration with The Bayou City Comeback Chorus performing 2 nights at The Wortham Centre in Houston, TX. In March of 2024 SVB self released 2 versions of their single “Light Me Up” with members of Htown’s beloved Two Star Symphony and produced a companion visualizer for the extended version linked here. 

Sara Van Buskirk is involved in a variety of creative endeavors including writing, recording and touring with acclaimed artist, Kam Franklin (of The Suffers) whose debut solo album “Land of The Neon Sun” is set to release in early 2025 (with Margo Price as Executive Producer). In 2023 SVB Founded Georgia Park Studios, their very own recording studio and began producing her second full-length album set to release in 2024. SVB was the recipient of the 2022 SACI Grant and her most recent album was funded in part by the City of Houston through The Houston Arts Alliance. SVB’s work has been featured in magazines such as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard and more as well as on recordings and stages across the US. SVB is a voting member of The Recording Academy and is involved in her local Texas Chapter attending events and volunteer opportunities with fellow artists to enrich the community. SVB is a firm believer in advocating for women’s and LGBTQ+ rights and using their voice to effect change within their community. Sara Van Buskirk continues to push the boundaries of Americana and Folk, crafting songs that linger in the hearts and minds of listeners long after her performance. As SVB continues to evolve as an artist, one thing remains constant: Sara’s unwavering commitment to creating music that speaks to the soul.
